A patient came into Synergy today for the first time on a recommendation of her friend after failing PT at another facility.
She came in with 9 out of 10 pain in the L buttock that she had been suffering with for 4 months. She works a standing job and was in misery for all those months and could not stand at all without shooting pain in the buttock. After careful evaluation, we determined the cause of her pain and performed several manual therapy techniques to correct it. I had planned on putting her on another unique treatment machine called the ATM2 after manual therapy, but upon standing up, she said, “it doesn’t hurt anymore”.
I was somewhat skeptical it was that good, so I had her walk around the clinic for a while and we went over to the ATM2 machine… no pain walking.
Now, for this machine to work, there needs to be a trunk motion that can reproduce the patient’s symptoms (meaning bending forward, back, side to side or rotation reproduces the pain). When we tried all these movements… no pain. 0/10. Pain relieved after 4 months of 9/10 suffering, her pain with standing and walking relieved after 1 session.
This patient’s husband then asked a great question, “What do you call that? It’s not chiropractic or physical therapy!”
I couldn’t help but smile and explained that what we do is more similar to the Osteopathic treatment model, but we are manual therapy based Physical Therapists and it does, indeed, feel very different than the type of treatment offered at most PT clinics in the area. The experience at Synergy was so different than what they experienced at the other facility that he didn’t even think that what we did would be called the same thing!
The clinic you choose matters! Not all physical therapy is created equal. Remember, you have the right to request where you receive your care. Choose wisely, choose Synergy.
