DPT
Dr. Bolena specializes in the management and treatment of vestibular and balance disorders including vertigo and fall prevention. His passion for treating and educating people with balance and dizziness issues was kindled when he was a student at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, pursuing the Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. During this time, he had the opportunity to work with individuals with profound mental and physical disabilities who had significant balance and gait challenges. Dr. Bolena’s research interests led him to co-author an article published in the Gait and Posture journal. “Kinematic analysis of postural reactions to a posterior translation in rocker bottom shoes in younger and older adults” analyzes the impact that rocker bottom shoes, such as diabetic footwear, have on balance reactions in older adults.
Other clinical specialties encompass manual interventions and rehabilitation of orthopedic injuries and dysfunctions, primarily related to the spine. This includes management and manual techniques for headaches, neck pain, back pain, and sciatica. He utilizes a unique approach to manual physical therapy treatment based on his training in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy® (MDT), otherwise known as the McKenzie Method.
Dr. Bolena has many interests outside of Synergy Rehab & Wellness including motorcycling, camping, hiking, woodworking, and trying to be the best dad and husband for his three boys and wife, Virginia.
